The Workshop

In partnership with the Department of Justice, the CURA project facilitated and helped fund a 3-day workshop to collect and develop legal terminology in Innu-aimun.

300 criminal court terms were translated into Innu-aimun, including words and expressions for the jury trial process.

 

Participants

Participants included the following Innu interpreters, judge, and lawyers:

    • Anniette Bartmann (Court Interpreter, Labrador Legal Services)
    • The Honourable John L. Joy (Judge, Provincial Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, Happy Valley-Goose Bay)

 

a group of Innu with experience in interpretation for the courts:

    • Mary Pia Benuen
    • George Gregoire
    • Thomas Michel
    • Anne Rich
    • Audrey Snow
    • Francesca Snow

 

and 3 CURA team members:
